Police have suspect in custody for 7-Eleven robbery

Philadelphia police on Monday announced last month’s arrest of a North Philadelphia man in connection with the armed robbery of a Mayfair 7-Eleven on May 7.

The arrest occurred Aug. 19 at 10 p.m. on the 5600 block of Chew Ave. when Maurice Hickaday, 22, surrendered to police.

Hickaday lives on the 2800 block of N. 27th St. and is charged with robbery, assault, weapons violations and related offenses.

Police have not released details of the crime.

Hickaday is being held at the city’s Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in lieu of $75,000 bail and is scheduled for a Sept. 6 court hearing.

Hickaday is not suspected in a string of unsolved 7-Eleven robberies that plagued the Northeast and neighboring Bensalem Township from October 2009 to December 2010.

The unidentified suspect in that case is described as white, in his 20s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and with a medium build. ••
